CALLISTO has been awarded a 5 years contract to upgrade ESA DEEP SPACE ANTENNAS WITH THE LATEST GENERATION OF CALLISTO CRYOGENIC RECEIVERS
Callisto, part of the Celestia Technologies Group, designs, manufactures and markets maintenance free cryogenic LNAs to provide outstanding Ground Station Noise Temperature (NT). Thanks to our expertise in Radio Frequencies and Cryogenic Systems, we also provide a set of service such as consultancy, engineering services, equipment design, system integration and thermal cycling test in our facilities located near Toulouse, France.
In 2020, CALLISTO has been awarded a 5 years contract to upgrade ESA DEEP SPACE ANTENNAS WITH THE LATEST GENERATION OF CALLISTO CRYOGENIC RECEIVERS. The second generation of Callisto’s cryo receivers in operation for around 10 years in ESA DSAs are being replaced by our third generation so-called Cryo-Cooled Feed. Thanks to unprecedented NT performance (compared to our second generation of cryo receivers) the G/T of the 35m ESA DSA has been improved by more than 1dB in X Band (on site proven at Cebreros at 10° elevation and in operation since May 2021) and in Ka Band (32GHz) the G/T is expected to be improved by more than 1.7dB. These cryo-cooled feed systems have been designed for 100% time of cryogenic operation thanks to an innovative system of two cold heads running in parallel and the ability to remove one cold head for maintenance while the second one is still cooling the RF components.
The upgrade of ESA DSAs is ongoing with the X Band upgrade at Malargüe where a team of Callisto is currently supporting the installation and commissioning of this 3rd generation cryo-receiver.
